I’m Sam, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and I have worked with individuals navigating trauma, anger, anxiety, grief, suicidal ideation, relationship issues, life transitions, and more. I have a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with an emphasis in Trauma, Grief, and Crisis from NNU. My background includes work in child care, supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, and working with children and families in the foster and adoption system.
I work with people from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures and approach this work with cultural humility. I focus on understanding your lived experience, rather than assuming. I am an LGBTQ+ ally and I am culturally familiar with the LDS community and work alongside individuals both inside and outside of the faith.
What It’s Like to Work Together
I aim to be fully present in session and create a space that feels both supportive and real. I bring warmth, empathy, and humor into the room, while also being willing to challenge you when it’s helpful. I see therapy as a collaborative process and welcome feedback so we can adjust the work to best support you.
Our work together isn’t one-size-fits-all. Sessions can be structured or more open, solution-focused or exploratory, depending on what you need. I may offer tools, reflections, or homework—but only if that’s something you find helpful. The goal is to meet you where you are, not force you into a rigid process.
My Approach to Therapy
I take an eclectic approach, integrating person-centered therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), solution-focused work, and IFS-informed parts work.
At the core of this is a focus on understanding patterns. Our brains are wired to return to what’s familiar, even when those patterns are no longer serving us. Together, we work to explore those cycles, identify barriers, and begin to intentionally shape a path that feels more aligned with the life you want to live.
Sometimes words aren’t enough.
I offer creative and experiential approaches, including sandtray therapy and therapeutically applied tabletop role-playing games (TA-TTRPG), for those interested.
Both approaches can be especially helpful when processing trauma, offering a different way to engage with experiences that may feel overwhelming when approached directly though talk therapy.
A Bit About Me
Outside of therapy, I enjoy listening to music and audiobooks, reading, walking my dog, and spending time at coffee shops
In my work, I often invite clients to explore their values, and I think it’s only fair that I share mine as well. I value self-awareness, genuineness, service, humility, and social justice. These values shape how I show up in the therapy room and the kind of space I aim to create.
